Herbal Tallow Beauty Balm

Source: Frugallysustainable.com

Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat.  Tallow resulting from grass-fed beef or sheep is high in omega 3 and is CLA-rich (good, natural Trans fat).  Andrea of Frugally Sustainable provides a couple of links for purchasing high-quality, grass-fed tallow.

This is a recipe for an Herbal Tallow Beauty Balm.  It uses grass-fed tallow, a blend of rose petals, lavender and other herbs, carrier oil, essential oils and other ingredients.

Tallow may seem like a somewhat strange ingredient for an herbal balm.  However, tallow-based balms (especially grass-fed beef tallow)  are growing more popular. The omega-3 fatty acid and good trans fats found in tallow work well in balms and treatments for skin.  Herbs and essential oils also add a nice scent to tallow-based balms.

Andrea walks you through the steps of infusing the tallow with the herbs, and then making the balm.

These are just a few uses for Tallow Balm:

  • Apply under the eyes to prevent and reduce wrinkles
  • Use for very dry skin
  • To heal eczema and other skin conditions

Very interesting recipe.
