How to Avoid Eczema

First, know that eczema (also called “atopic dermatitis”) is a serious skin disease. Eczema causes dry skin that can itch, get red and crack. Part of the skin might break out in a rash, or the rash might be on the whole body.

Flax seed oil taken internally has been reported by a number of people to reduce itching, redness, cracking and skin blisters. Manhy people are deficient in omega three and we often don’t eat the foods that supplys this nutrient. You can take either the oil by spoon or get capsules. It is helpful to take it with protein for the best absorption. During severe itching, I found that taking this supplement in the middle of the night would enable me to get the relief to fall back to sleep again.

Goldenseal root, oregon grape root and barberry root are all herbal roots containing berberine which has been shown to soothe flaring eczema. You can find prepared tinctures of these herbs in a well stocked herbal shop or online, but be sure to talk to your herbalist about the proper use of these as they are effective if used correctly, but these must be used for a time and then a break must be taken before you can resume taking them. To use add a half a teaspoon of the pre-made tincture to 3oz of olive oil and apply to the inflamed area in the morning and again in the evening.

Another natural treatment method is the oatmeal bath. The oatmeal bath does wonders to the dry skin and is very effective for the inflamed skin. Buy a packet of oatmeal from the Supermarket and add one or two cups of oatmeal in warm water. If you experience severe itching, it is better to add more oatmeal and water to ensure the best results.

A poor diet will more than likely contribute to eczema flare ups. Ingesting things including coffee, sweet, greasy, diary, eggs and caffeine will be detrimental in the treatment of eczema. In fact a diet consisting of lots of fish, fresh fruit and vegetables will help treat & overcome eczema.

Butea (Butea monosperma) In the treatment of skin diseases such as eczema, its the seeds of the butea tree that are useful. The seeds of the butea are mixed with lime water and are applied on the affected regions to get the required benefits.

Gamma Linolenic acids are the form of essential fatty acids. Evening primrose oil and borage oil are the rich sources of gamma linolenic acids. Gamma linolenic acids help cure the inflammation of the skin by correcting the deficiencies that cause the inflammation. These properties help in curing eczema.
